The Best Way To Lose Weight - Is Starvation Mode Just A Myth?
It's amazing that in this time of low-fat, low-calorie everything, such a large percentage of people are still overweight and collectively getting heavier every day. Everyone is looking for the best way to lose weight, the easiest, quickest, least painful process of shedding pounds. Weight loss ads are everywhere, diet plans abound, and in the midst of all this you are told that if you cut your calories too much you will go into "starvation mode" and not only stop losing weight but get fatter! This makes things so confusing that sometimes you end up just not doing anything at all. Hence you certainly don't lose any weight. So basically, on one hand you are told to stop eating to lose weight, and then on the other hand told to not stop eating or you'll get heavier. This was a subject that both puzzled and intrigued me so I decided to do a little reading on it and I am now convinced that it is possible the whole starvation mode, although perhaps containing a nugget of truth to begin with, is nothing but a myth that is constantly perpetuated to the point that it has become a common belief. If you think about it, it is just scientifically impossible to take in fewer calories and end up gaining weight. The truth is simply that consuming fewer calories causes your body to make use of stored calories which have been stored as fat. If you don't consume enough calories, your body will make use of the stores of fat, and you will absolutely lose weight. Furthermore, studies have also shown that taking in fewer calories does not in any way slow down the metabolism as is thought by many. Is this just another myth? Given the studies I have read, I think it is. So given this information, there is really nothing else you need concern yourself with other than taking in fewer calories than what you actually need to maintain your current weight. That's the best way to lose weight and keep it off. If for example you need 2000 calories per day to maintain the weight you are at right now, decreasing your caloric intake to 1800 will result in a loss of weight, guaranteed. So put aside the idea of starvation mode, slowing down your metabolism, and other "old wives' tales" and simply consume fewer calories per day. You'll burn fat and lose weight! |
