How Can I Lose Weight? What Do You Do When You Feel Like Cheating? 10 Tips and Tricks!

Does it seem like you are always on a perpetual diet, and you are still asking yourself, how can I lose weight? Or have you found something that works for you but you find yourself wanting to cheat and eat forbidden snacks on a daily basis?

Don't worry, this happens to all of us and we all need a little help now and then to stick with a healthy eating plan. If you're struggling with this, here are a few tips and tricks to stay on track when it comes to overeating.

1. Set a timer for 10 minutes and if you still feel like having that snack after the timer goes off, go ahead and have something. Usually by the time 10 minutes have gone by your need to have a snack will have passed also.

2. Go ahead and give in to your snack craving, but instead of eating an entire chocolate bar, have one small piece of dark chocolate and see if that does the trick.

3. Keep a food journal and write down everything you eat each day. Sometimes just the thought that you will have to write things down will keep you from actually eating them to begin with.

4. When you feel like cheating, write down your feelings. If you do this on a regular basis you may start to see a pattern and be able to identify WHY you get these urges. Then you may be able to do something about it.

5. Chew a piece of gum instead of grabbing a snack. Sometimes this will help the craving go away.

6. Instead of eating something, have a bottle of water. Sip it slowly and by the time you're done you probably won't crave anything to eat right then.

7. When you feel like snacking, go and brush your teeth instead. I don't really know why this works but it does.

8. Do you usually sneak a snack when no one is around? Make it your policy that you will only eat sweets or treats in the presence of at least one other person.

9. When you feel like cheating, and you feel like you are depriving yourself of something you really love, stop and make a list of all the things being overweight deprives you of. Make a list of everything you are not doing right now because of being overweight.

10. If all else fails, give in to your craving but eat only a few bites or a very small portion. Sometimes you just have to have that treat.
