Absolutely Cheapest Airfares - How in the World to Find Them?
Well I think that this is one of the questions every traveler would like to know. If you're planning a vacation and you are going to fly, who doesn't want to find the absolutely cheapest airfares? I know I always look for these deals. So what's the first step? Well let me just say it's quite possible to get great travel deals if you are willing to do a little searching. If you just want to log on to the computer, go to the first online travel agency you find, and purchase the first tickets you find, you will probably not get the cheapest airfare unless you are very lucky. What I would suggest is first make sure you buy your tickets at least 2 weeks in advance. This will ensure the best ticket prices. Begin your search online at the website of the airline you would like to fly with. Make a note of their prices. When checking for your airfare prices, be sure to try different travel dates. Try to be flexible and adjust by a day or so to see if you can save any money that way. Traveling midweek can often result in a lower fare. Try to travel and return on a day in the middle of the week rather than the weekend. You may also try the "red eye" flights to see if you can save that way if you don't mind flying overnight. It's not too bad really, you can just sleep the whole time and the trip goes by quickly. Fares for these flights are normally less expensive so give that a try. Finally, check some physical travel agencies too, and not only the ones online. Sometimes you can find the absolutely cheapest airfares just by driving to a local travel agency and speaking with an agent there. They have a huge database to look through and I've really found some great deals this way. Another benefit of using a "real" travel agent as opposed to just buying online is that if you encounter any problems on your trip you have a person to call. I had a major problem with a hotel one time in San Francisco and my friend and I had thankfully used a brick and mortar travel agency so we were able to call them and get it straightened out quickly. I am not sure how easy that would have been if we had booked online. You have to weigh the benefits of each method and your desire to find the absolutely cheapest airfares when you consider how and where to buy your tickets. If you find the best prices online and they are significantly less expensive, go for it. |
